Campus Dining Wins Silver in National Competition

After being open for a little over a year and a half, Cal Poly’s Vista Grande continues to be recognized for its outstanding impact on the campus community. Most recently, the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) recognized and awarded Cal Poly Campus Dining and its Vista Grande Dining Complex as a silver tier recipient for the 2021 Loyal E. Horton Dining Award for Retail Sales – Single Concept/Multiple Concepts/Marketplace.

Cal Poly is thrilled that Vista Grande is being recognized for its unique design that is centered around sustainability, nutrition and a menu that caters to everyone. This award is truly a testament to the venue’s success.

Specifically, the Retail Sales category recognizes outstanding retail locations on campus that have innovative features and techniques. Vista Grande was designed to be flexible to the ever-changing palate of guests who visit the complex multiple times each day. Each restaurant features a rotating menu of seasonal dishes reflecting the latest culinary concepts from international street food and global noodle dishes to fresh, locally sourced desserts.

This is the first NACUFS award Cal Poly Campus Dining has earned outside the Catering and Nutrition categories. Campus Dining most recently earned the Grand Prize for its Online Catering Menu in 2020.

Loyal E. Horton, a NACUFS founder, past president and highly regarded innovator, is the namesake of the dining awards. The NACUFS awards celebrate exemplary retail spaces, menus, presentations, special event planning and new dining concepts, and provides an avenue for sharing ideas and creative presentations in campus dining services.
