Cal Poly Public Safety recently launched the Rave Guardian safety app and a new campaign sharing its offerings and features is making its debut following extensive campus feedback.
The new mobile app offers students, faculty and staff convenient access to send anonymous tips and communicate easily with the Cal Poly Police Department (CPPD), set a safety timer when walking from place to place on campus, text Mustang Patrol, and connect to 24-hour police or support services.
The Rave Guardian communications campaign is designed to promote these features and encourage the members of the Cal Poly community to download the app. Cal Poly Public Safety and Cal Poly Corporation’s Marketing and Communications Department collaborated with students, faculty and staff to better understand how users identify with the features of the app.
“We would not have been able to refine the campaign as much as we did without the feedback of these community members,” said Director of Public Safety Business Services Amy Voorhies.
The Cal Poly Corporation Marketing and Communication team developed three campaign concepts that were shared with the campus community. While all three concepts had their merits, one campaign rose to the top. The winning campaign features different pictures of Cal Poly’s campus with headlines that tout one of the apps features. One execution featuring wild turkeys crossing campus and the headline “Your report suspicious activity confidant” is among one of the community member’s favorites.
The Rave Guardian app campaign includes social media posts, digital advertising with Mustang News, portal announcements, Cal Poly Report, explainer video, flyers and posters. In addition, marketing kits were created and shared out with department communicators including ASI.
“The success of this effort and ultimately, enhancing campus safety is dependent on students, faculty and staff downloading the app,” said Ellen Curtis, director of Marketing and Communication, with the Cal Poly Corporation. “We are counting on our campus partners to help get the word out.”
The Rave Guardian app can be downloaded on Google Play and the Apple Store. For more information on the app visit the Cal Poly Public Safety Rave Guardian website.
