Cal Poly Public Safety has launched Mustang Safe, a new mobile app designed to keep students, faculty and staff connected, informed and safe.
The app replaces Rave Guardian, Cal Poly’s previous safety app, and builds on its foundation with enhanced tools that make it easier to reach help, share information and stay aware on campus.
Among its new features, Mustang Safe includes Confidential Conversations, a secure in-app messenger that connects users directly to the Cal Poly Police Department (CPPD). Users can send anonymous tips, ask questions or share concerns from their phone.
Mustang Safe also includes a Virtual Walk Home, allowing Public Safety to monitor users’ routes when traveling across campus. For a more personal option, the Friend Walk feature lets users share their location with a friend who can track their journey and contact emergency services if needed.
In an emergency, help is just a tap away. A large safety button on the top of the screen instantly connects users with CPPD dispatch and shares their location in real time. The app also supports geo-targeted alerts, ensuring the Cal Poly community receives crucial notifications based on their location, even without cell service.
Beyond immediate safety tools, Mustang Safe centralizes campus resources. The Support Resources section connects users with key services, including Campus Health and Wellbeing, 24/7 crisis hotlines and Mustang Patrol.
Privacy remains a top priority. The app does not track users unless they request help, and location sharing is optional. All information is encrypted and stored securely, using protections comparable to financial institutions.
Current students, faculty and staff can download Mustang Safe for free on iPhone and Android. To get started, download the app and log in with your Cal Poly credentials.
