Living on campus without a car does not need to be hard. The Zipcar program at Cal Poly helps make traveling off-campus convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly.
Zipcar provides an on-campus self-serve, on-demand car-sharing program all day every day.
A car is just three simple steps away.
- Register as a member.
- Reserve a car online or by phone.
- Use your Zipcard to unlock the vehicle and drive away to your destination.
Oh, and be sure to return the car to the same location where you picked it up.
The only requirement to rent a Zipcar is a membership. To register, you need to be at least 18 and pay an annual fee of only $15. Cal Poly students, staff, and faculty enjoy a discounted fee to make transportation affordable and accessible. Most members are approved instantly and can book a trip within minutes, but it can take a little longer to check your driving record. As soon as you're approved, you can book Zipcars by the hour or day and use the app to unlock and lock during your trip. You will receive a Zipcard—an access card to any Zipcar vehicle you reserve—within five to seven business days.
This convenient service is designed to be very affordable to students living on campus or any Cal Poly community member. There are discounted hourly rates as low as $5.50 per hour, this covers gas, insurance, maintenance and 180 miles per day. Zipcars are in every living community on campus as well as near the Kennedy Library.
This program is intended for personal and quick, local business needs for Cal Poly staff, faculty and students. See here to view the current Cal Poly Zipcar fleet. A department business Zipcar account may not be used for personal travel. To rent a vehicle for official university-related business travel needs, please visit University Travel.
